Whether you are studying guitar to be a music major in college, to play lead guitar in a rock band, to learn classical or Spanish guitar, or just to have fun playing your favorite songs, Bruce Harvey has an instructional program to fit your needs.

Learning to play your favorite songs on the guitar is fun and easy.  Students choose the songs they want to learn, and Bruce will listen, quickly transcribe, break it down, and show you how to play it.  Most contemporary music is accessible to the beginning level student.  Beginning students will play a song in their first lesson.

If you intend to study guitar in college as a music major, Bruce will design your guitar program to prepare you for what is required. This will include to read music notation fluently, understand the organization of the fingerboard for scales (lead guitar) and chords (rhythm guitar), grasp the systematics of music (music theory), develop a repertoire of classical guitar pieces, and learn lead guitar styles.  Several of Bruce's students have gone on to high level university music programs.

If you want to play in a rock band, your music program will be designed to teach you to learn lead and rhythm guitar, and the elements of music theory as it applies to song writing.

Classical guitar is a great way to build a musical foundation. It is challenging and accessible to the committed guitar student.  We use scale practice to build technique and fluidity, while learning the music of Tarrega and the Spanish masters, J. S. Bach arranged for guitar, and other European and Western Hemisphere composers.
